How It Works
This calculator helps you determine the ideal level of underwire support for your bust and lifestyle. You'll input your bra size and information about your daily activities (e.g., sedentary office work, active job, frequent exercise). The calculator then recommends a support level—from gentle, flexible wires to firm, rigid wires—that will provide the best combination of comfort and support for your needs.
Why It's Important
Not all underwires are created equal. Choosing the right level of support is crucial for comfort, posture, and breast health. An underwire that's too flimsy won't provide adequate lift, while one that's too rigid can be uncomfortable and dig in. This calculator helps you find that 'just right' level of support, ensuring your bra is working for you, not against you.
Understanding Your Results
The recommended support level is your guide to smarter bra shopping. If it suggests 'Medium Support,' you can look for bras described with terms like 'everyday support' or 'moderate lift.' If it recommends 'Firm Support,' you'll want to seek out bras designed for high-impact activities or full-bust support. This knowledge empowers you to read product descriptions more effectively and choose a bra that truly meets your support needs.
Tips & Tricks
- The wire should sit comfortably in the crease of your breast (your inframammary fold), not on top of your breast tissue.
- If an underwire is poking you in the armpit, the band may be too large or the cup style may not be right for your breast shape.
- When you buy a new bra, press on the underwire. It should have a little bit of flex but still feel strong.
- Never put your underwire bras in the dryer, as the heat can warp the wire and cause it to pop out of its casing.
- Consider having different bras with different support levels for different activities, just like you have different shoes.
